2021 Quarterly Neighborhood Meeting Schedule

We’ve set our 2021 Quarterly Neighborhood Meeting schedule and are excited for our first meeting in March. If you have any topics you’d like to share or discuss, please contact us.

Help shape the future of Sherman Hill! All Sherman Hill Association members and neighbors are invited to attend the quarterly meetings.

2020 Halloween on the Hill Goes Virtual

Since its inception in 2010, Halloween on the Hill has grown to become Des Moines’s premier Halloween event. For a decade, residents of the historic Sherman Hill neighborhood have gone all out to decorate their homes with spooky scenes while also collecting food items for the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) Food Pantry Network. Like so many events we all love, it is sadly not safe to invite thousands of our friends this year.

However, the need to help those who face food insecurity in our community has never been more important. At the core of Halloween on the Hill has always been a desire to use this fun event help others.

This year, we are asking everyone to support DMARC while we also take a trip down our own “Halloween on the Hill memory lane,” said Sherman Hill Association President, Ryan Howell. “You can check out the 7 foot tall Frankenstein, clowns, medieval knights, zombie spiders, Freddy Kruger roaming the streets, a full-size pirate ship, live performances of Thriller, and more! All have all been favorites but what’s number one? You can help us decide that with your donation – and vote!”

The public is invited to vote for your favorite(s) Halloween scene by making a donation to DMARC at

All funds raised will be used to support DMARC’s Food Pantry Network, which last year assisted more than 55,000 individuals in Greater Des Moines, 35% of whom were children and youth age 17 or younger. Established in 1976, it is the largest food pantry network in Iowa with pantry sites located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, and Des Moines.

Matt Unger. “Halloween on the Hill is an event we always look forward to, and we are excited to keep its spirit alive in a virtual way while elevating the issue of food insecurity in our community.” Last year, Halloween on the Hill raised over $1,000 and collected nearly 5,000 individual items in support of the DMARC Food Pantry Network.
