We want to have the best neighborhood for you and your family. If you notice anything that doesn’t feel quite right – please report it! We’ve put together the list below with a few different ways to contact the appropriate parties. Note: these suggestions should not be used to report emergencies. For any emergency, please call 911.

Report using the myDSMmobile app

After you’ve downloaded the free app, you simply take a photo, add details, and press submit. Your phone does the rest by sending exact GPS coordinates which will allow crews to know exactly where the issue is. The photo and any additional information you send will ensure that the right crew and equipment are sent out ensuring the City is able to take care of the problem quickly.

The app can be used to anonymously report many items including:

  • Potholes
  • Weeds
  • Alley repair
  • Inoperable vehicles
  • Tree requests

Contact the Des Moines Police Non-Emergency Phone Line

The Des Moines Police Department has set up a non-emergency communication center that is staffed 24/7. Please call (515) 283-4811.

Contact the Des Moines Neighborhood Inspection Division

Des Moines has complaint-based reporting.  If you don’t let the inspector know about issues, they don’t know and can’t fix it.  Reporting poorly maintained and nuisance rental properties helps protect vulnerable tenants.  Everyone deserves to live in safe and clean environment.

The division has three primary responsibilities; rental inspections, the oversight of condemned buildings, and the abatement of junk and debris which includes junk vehicles.
